Post # Seven

Ah……Chicago, oh wait let’s not get ahead of myself.

We left off in Saugatuck, MI. So let’s start there: after a wonderful weekend with our kids & grand kids. Waiting for the weather to clear for our crossing to Chicago took a few days. The near shore was good however the off shore was rolling. We were starting to get ant-sea so we headed to the next port to the south, South Haven. That put us a few miles closer to Chicago and gave us different port to explore.

South Haven is a nice little town, Rolo met lots of folks as we walked through town, he especially loved the dog bakery & was glassy eyed at their bakery display!

The following day was our weather window for crossing Lake Michigan to Chicago. We shoved off about 5:30 A.M. We had a great crossing very few boats and smooth water a wonderful combination.
The Chicago skyline is breath taking as is came into view. Our slip was right next to the shoreline bike path with incredible views of the city right off the aft. After the boat was secured in her slip we off loaded our tandem & headed out for a ride on the bike path (all three of us). The shoreline trail was amazing, packed with loads of people enjoying all of the activities the area offered, biking, jogging, folks rollerblading & the Bears home…..opening game was taking place too. Folks were tailgating along the path. Solider Field is directly behind the trail & along the shoreline; the shoreline trail offers beautiful views of not only the city but the planetarium, the aquarium, the museum of science & industry, countless memorials & fountains not to mention Lake Michigan!

As we wanders through the city we couldn’t help but look upwards at the skyline. I guess the amazing heights & architecture of the buildings around us captivated our attention. We walked countless miles, ate way to much, biked & shopped the city. We spent 5 nights in Chicago & could have easily spent another week; we decided it would give us a reason to comeback hopefully soon.

We took hundreds of photos and a video of our trek through the heart of the City on the Chicago River. We have left Chicago and are currently headed south of the Chicago River. We hope you enjoy our travels as much as we do sharing them.
